Robert Koepke House, Schieder-Schwalenberg
Guided tour of the exhibition with the artist:
May 31, 3–4 pm
For four decades, artist Axel Plöger has been creating a painterly oeuvre shaped by the two fundamental concepts of improvisation and motivation. His work is predominantly situated in abstraction, aside from occasional excursions into figuration. Plöger describes his works as “absolute paintings” — images without objects, free, abstract painting.
Axel Plöger has never been interested in producing representations of reality; rather, he is concerned with the realities that arise in our minds — more precisely, with the process that leads to their emergence. Plöger’s paintings are traces of a perceptual process that unfolds between the artist and the canvas. Painting, for him, involves both improvisation and precision, and invites viewers to engage in an interaction with color and form.
The exhibition predominantly presents new works on canvas and paper, many of which were created specifically for this show, complemented by several earlier key pieces.
